Ichiro's Malt & Grain 111 Proof is the high-octane, US-exclusive expression of Chichibu Distillery's celebrated World Blended Whisky. Where the standard Malt & Grain is built for balance, this "Red Label" bottling pushes further, adding a stock of peated malt that's rare for this range and bottling at a serious 55.5% ABV (111 proof) - one of the boldest whiskies to come out of Japan at this price.
The blend draws on components aged anywhere from 4 to 17 years, including rare Chichibu-distilled whisky, and delivers notes of candied orange, grilled pineapple, sea salt caramel, toasted buckwheat, gingerbread, and spiced honey, all wrapped in wisps of smoke from the peated malt.
Add a few drops of water and let it sit for a few minutes before tasting - this whisky rewards a little patience and opens up dramatically as it breathes.
