Gérard Bertrand Picpoul de Pinet comes from vineyards clustered along the Languedoc coast near the Étang de Thau, where the Picpoul Blanc grape has long been the region's answer to a day spent by the water. Grown just a few miles from the Mediterranean, the grapes pick up a distinct salinity and freshness that's become the calling card of this appellation.
The wine pours pale gold with green reflections, opening with aromas of citrus zest, white flowers, and green apple. On the palate it's bright and briny, with crisp acidity, notes of lemon and grapefruit pith, and a clean, mineral-driven finish that lingers with a touch of sea spray.
Picpoul de Pinet is the classic oyster wine of France for good reason — pour it alongside fresh shellfish, grilled fish, or a simple plate of charcuterie and goat cheese.
