Product Description

Vigneti del Sole Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is produced from 100% Montepulciano grown across multiple vineyards in the province of Chieti in Abruzzo, central Italy, situated in the coastal hills between the town of Chieti and Casalbordino near the Adriatic Sea. The Montepulciano grape — distinct from the Tuscan town of the same name — finds its highest expression in Abruzzo, where the calcareous clay soils and the moderating influence of the Adriatic climate produce a variety that is structurally generous but retains the freshness that cooler coastal air preserves. The Pasqua family, whose winemaking operations across northern and central Italy have been family-run since 1925, oversees production of this expression as part of their broader commitment to regional Italian varietals at accessible quality levels.

Following harvest, the wine is vinified and aged exclusively in stainless steel — a production choice that preserves the variety's natural fruit character and vibrant acidity without introducing the tannin softening or flavor modification that oak contact would bring. The absence of barrel aging keeps the wine's profile direct and fruit-forward, emphasizing the primary character of the Montepulciano grape rather than the accumulated influence of wood. The result is a wine built for early drinking and everyday table use rather than extended cellaring.

The palate is defined by dark cherry, red plum, and a light strawberry note alongside a fine, lively acidity that gives the wine its food-friendly energy. The tannins are soft and approachable, without the grip that longer maceration or oak contact would produce. The finish is clean and moderately short, closing on a faint spice note and a bright red fruit persistence that is characteristic of the coastal Abruzzo style at this level of production.
