Opus One is one of the most celebrated wines in the world, born from the 1979 partnership of Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Chateau Mouton Rothschild. The 2022 vintage comes from the estate in Oakville, in the heart of Napa Valley, and is a Bordeaux-style red blend led by Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec in support.
The wine is deep garnet in the glass. The nose offers blackcurrant, black cherry and plum with violet, cedar, graphite and a touch of espresso. The palate is full yet polished, with dark fruit, fine-grained tannins, subtle spice and mineral freshness, and a long, elegant finish. It rewards decanting and can be enjoyed now or cellared for years.
Serve with dry-aged steak, rack of lamb, roasted mushrooms or aged hard cheeses.
