Monte Bernardi Tzingarella — Italian for "gypsy girl," a playful diminutive of the estate's prestige Tzingana cuvée — is produced at the Monte Bernardi estate in Panzano in Chianti, situated in the southernmost reaches of the Chianti Classico zone at 350 meters above sea level on south-facing slopes surrounded by dense woodland. The estate was purchased in 2003 by siblings Michael and Jennifer Schmelzer, who have invested steadily in both vineyard and winery with an emphasis on organic viticulture and site-expressive winemaking. The Panzano subzone has long been acknowledged as one of the Grand Cru sites of Chianti Classico — a distinction that owes much to the area's distinctive soil composition of Galestro shale, Arenaria sandstone, and Alberese limestone, each contributing distinct textural and mineral properties to the vines planted within them. The Tzingarella draws from Monte Bernardi's younger vineyards across the estate, making it the counterpart to the Tzingana, which is reserved for the oldest vines.

The blend follows the same Bordeaux-inspired composition as the Tzingana — Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Colorino — with the Colorino providing a distinctly Tuscan thread that grounds the otherwise international variety mix in the terroir of Panzano. Fermentation proceeds naturally in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats before the wine is aged in barriques and tonneaux for eighteen months, a maturation period that integrates the blend's components and builds complexity without imposing excessive wood character on the wine's underlying site expression. The estate's stylistic commitment to elegance over extraction runs through the Tzingarella as clearly as it does through the Tzingana — both wines share the mineral-driven, acid-structured personality that defines Monte Bernardi's approach across its entire range.

The palate is cassis and dark cherry forward, with subtle tertiary notes of leather and dried herb emerging alongside a spicy, peppery finish that the Cabernet Franc and Colorino contribute. The tannins are fine and present, providing structure without hardness, and the wine carries a vibrant acidity that reflects both the Panzano terroir and the estate's preference for harvesting at precision rather than maximum ripeness. The finish is long and mineral, closing on a graphite thread and a lingering spice that rewards time in the glass and at the table in equal measure.
