Carpano Antica Formula is a rich, full-bodied sweet vermouth from Turin, Italy, made from a recipe that traces back to Antonio Benedetto Carpano, the inventor of modern vermouth in 1786. It is a favorite of bartenders and the benchmark for Manhattans and Negronis.
The nose is deeply aromatic, with vanilla, cocoa, dried orange peel and warm baking spice. The palate is velvety and complex, balancing sweetness with a gentle bitterness, and layers of vanilla, dried fruit, caramel and herbs finish long and smooth.
Use it in a Manhattan, Negroni or Boulevardier, or sip it chilled over a large cube with an orange peel. Refrigerate after opening.
