Vin des Potes Greek Connection is a collaboration between the French négociant project Vin des Potes — founded by sommeliers Basile Passe and Yoan Tavares — and Greek winemaker Jason Ligas, drawing from organically and biodynamically farmed vineyards on the island of Samos in the Aegean Sea. The vineyards sit at elevations between 600 and 800 meters on north-northeast facing slopes, where quartz and schist soils of volcanic origin provide the mineral foundation for the wine. Sea breezes off the Aegean temper the Mediterranean heat and maintain the natural acidity essential to the style, while the island's ancient Muscat vine heritage shapes the aromatic register of the blend.
The wine is a blend of Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains and Assyrtiko, co-fermented with twenty days of skin maceration in concrete tank — an extended contact period that extracts phenolic compounds, color, and textural depth from the white grape skins. Following maceration, the wine is transferred to stainless steel for six months before spending a further six months in a combination of concrete egg and oak, a two-stage élevage that builds body and integrative complexity. The wine is produced without fining or filtration and with minimal sulfur, consistent with Vin des Potes' commitment to working exclusively with organic and Demeter certified fruit.
The palate opens with the Muscat's characteristic floral and dried fruit aromatics — dried apricot, orange blossom, and a honeyed stone fruit quality — before the Assyrtiko's structural acidity and the skin contact's phenolic grip assert themselves through the mid-palate. The texture is full and textured, with a saline, mineral persistence on the finish that is a direct expression of the schist and volcanic soils of Samos. The close is long and dry, with citrus pith and a faint brine that lingers well past the wine's initial aromatic exuberance.
