2021 Perenti Vineyard “Wild Child” Old Vine Carignan
Vintage & Origin
This singular expression of Carignan comes from the venerable Perenti Vineyard, planted in 1960 in Green Valley, Solano County, where deeply rooted vines thrive in well-drained Conejo-series soils.
Winemaking Philosophy
Made with a natural approach—unfined, unfiltered, and with zero added sulfur—this wine reflects the “nothing added, nothing subtracted” ethos that allows the vineyard and varietal to shine.
Fermentation & Aging
Half the Carignan grapes are foot-crushed whole-cluster, while the rest remain intact. They are co-fermented in small open-top fermenters and stainless steel, with daily pump-overs and occasional foot treading over two weeks. The wine is aged for seven months in a single 9,000 L old foudre before bottling.
Alcohol, Production & Release
At just 10.9% ABV, this light-bodied red preserves freshness and drinkability. Only 759 cases were produced, bottled in April 2022, and released in May 2022.
Tasting Notes
Bright and fruit-forward, this Carignan offers cherry and cranberry aromas with soft, leathery tannins and a hint of funk and acidity. Best served with a slight chill for an ultra-crushable red wine experience.
