Fuenteseca 5 Year Old Reserva Añejo Tequila - 750ml

The Atotonilco highland agave used in this lot was harvested late in the spring, just before the arrival of the summer rains in 1998. It was laid into barrels in August of that summer and spent the next 15 years resting in a dry, earthen-floor aging room in the town of Atotonilco el Alto. Because the agave used here carried a lower sugar content, a consequence of the prior year’s El Niño storms, the resulting spirit benefits from a careful aging approach. Nearly all of the lot rests in American white oak, which lends a gentle, disciplined sweetness and a refined, creamy texture that evolves over the long years. A scant 3% of the lot was transferred into French oak, contributing a subtle layer of dark oak tannin complexity and a hint of spice without overpowering the clean character of the agave.

Dry and complex on the palate, this expression highlights the elegance that can come from extended, traditional aging in a warm oak environment. Master distiller Enrique Fonseca has carefully chosen this 15-year tequila to be released at 43% ABV, deemed the optimal proof to showcase the balance between maturity, stature, and drinkability. The result is a tequila with quiet intensity, nuanced wood notes, and a lingering, refined finish that speaks to the patience of its maturation and the distinctive terroir of the Atotonilco highlands.
