Château de Bonhoste Bordeaux Blanc is produced by the Fournier family at their estate in Saint-Jean-de-Blaignac, situated on clay-limestone slopes overlooking the Dordogne River on Bordeaux's Right Bank, approximately six miles from Saint-Émilion. The estate has been in continuous operation since the 11th century, with the current generation now in its fifth succession of family winemaking under Yannick Fournier. The Bordeaux Blanc draws from vineyards planted to the region's classic white varieties — Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and Muscadelle — across clay-limestone soils that provide excellent drainage and contribute to the wine's characteristic mineral freshness.
The blend combines 60% Sauvignon Blanc, 30% Sémillon, and 10% Muscadelle, each variety contributing a distinct role to the finished wine. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tank at controlled temperatures between 16 and 18°C, a range calibrated to preserve the aromatic compounds developed during slow, cool fermentation. Following alcoholic fermentation, the wine spends fifteen days on fine lees with regular stirring, a brief but purposeful élevage that adds texture and a gentle roundness without displacing the wine's primary fruit character. Early bottling preserves the freshness and aromatic lift that define the house's approach to white Bordeaux.
The palate is fresh and fruit-driven, opening with white pear, peach, and apricot alongside the floral notes of daffodil and broom that Muscadelle characteristically contributes. Sauvignon Blanc provides the wine's structural acidity and a citrus-driven backbone, while Sémillon adds a subtle waxy texture that softens the finish without adding weight. The close is clean and moderately persistent, with a tangy, mineral quality that reflects the clay-limestone terroir of the Dordogne hillside.
