Los Vecinos del Campo Espadín is produced in the Valles Centrales region of Oaxaca by a cooperative of ten master mezcaleros, each bringing decades of family tradition and craft to every batch. The label reflects a deep respect for the land and a shared commitment to time-honored methods: hand-harvested Espadín agave, slow cooking in earthen-roofed pit ovens, and meticulous double distillation that preserves the soul of the agave while delivering a smooth, nuanced profile. The nose greets with a bright, herbaceous aroma that hints at the stone and smoke of its origin, inviting curiosity before the first sip. On the palate, this mezcal presents a lively, peppery heat that is immediately followed by a chorus of tropical fruits, mango and pineapple notes, and a warm kiss of ginger. Subtle roasted peppers lend a smoky sweetness that folds into the finish, leaving a balanced, lingering warmth rather than a harsh bite. The production is deliberately small-batch and artisanal, with each mezcalero overseeing a key role from agave selection to fermentation and distillation, ensuring consistency without sacrificing character. This Espadín embodies Oaxaca’s rich mezcal heritage while offering a vibrant, approachable profile that pairs beautifully with mezcal-forward cocktails or enjoyed neat to savor the complexity of the region.
